ISO Certifications for Clean Rooms
What Are Clean Room ISO Classes?
ISO certifications for clean rooms were developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) under its ISO 14644-1 standard. These classes essentially refer to the cleanliness of the air in a given room. Classes range from ISO Class 1 to ISO Class 9, with Class 1 being the cleanest and Class 9 being the least clean. The standard determines cleanliness based on the concentration of particles exceeding a certain size. ISO Class 1 clean rooms, for example, can exceed no more than ten 0.1-µm particles and two 0.2-µm particles per m3 of air.
Each clean room must be outfitted with its own selection of specific features in order to achieve its intended ISO class. But, ultimately, those features will depend on the intended layout of your clean room, and will therefore vary between projects.
