PROJECT: A.F.I.T. Engineering & Research Lab
The United States Air Force along with NASA, selected Wright Patterson Air Force Base as the site for the AFIT Project. This new building was to include approximatley 5,000 S.F. of Class 10,000 cleanrooms, in addition to other laboratory space and classrooms. The project was managed through the Army Corp. of Engineers and USA Companies was the general contractor. The Corp. of Engineers during the bidding phase recognized the complexity and specialized nature of cleanroom construction, dictated that the classrooms were to be installed by a qualified experienced cleanroom construction organization. Western Environmental Corporation was selected and was responsible for coordinating all of the other trades connected with the cleanrooms. Although W.E.C. typically provides the design in addition to the construction, this project was completely designed and all materials were specified.
